Tr1 take the 2024 league title again having won both the winter and spring league, a closely fought campaign from Tr2 which nearly saw a playoff for the title but Tr1 managed to hold.
To round-up the Cornish 2024 squash season was the final of the Pawle Cup and Hine Plate.
Held on Falmouth Sports Club‘s newly refurbished courts saw 20 players from teams across the Duchy battling out for the silverware.
In the Cup were the reigning champs Truro vs the hosts Falmouth, who narrowly beat Newquay Squash Team in the semi-final 3-2. Although a couple of top players were missing from Truro, they were still favorites for the win.

Some of the games and matches were tight, with the ‘Green Army’ putting up a good fight, but Truro Squash & Leisure Club took the win and retained the Cup 5-0 in front of a decent crowd. Well done to TR1 who also took the league 1 title.

In the Plate, Bude were facing off against the Pirates (Penzance), who beat Bodmin in the semis. Penzance only managed to field a team of 4, so Falmouth’s Christian ‘Rhino’ Thomas stepped up to play at 5 in a non-scoring fixture against Ali.
Bude, the Hine Plate winning team
There were some more cracking matches, but the Bude team came out on top winning 3-1. Robin vs Ed the highlight of the day’s matches.

It was great to see some of the junior players taking part, showing that squash in Cornwall has a long-term future! Thanks to the team at Falmouth for putting on the event, especially the staff behind the bar for the food. Well done to everyone who came to watch the matches, and cheers to Terry Beckett (Cornwall Squash Life-Long President) for presenting the awards.
