| Report: | Having defeated Bude2 on a countback early in the season PZ2 were expecting a strong side in Penzance. So it turned out. Rory O'Shea's unorthodox style and David's errors at the front of the court gave David an early confident start. Fewer errors from David and some good cross court drives from the front put him in contention in the second and third. Rory's greater power and retrieval were too much though. 1-0 to Bude. Taron Benbow has played 4 at 4 this season winning all of them. He stepped up to 3 last week and this week and the great pace on the ball and retrieval of Chris meant it was a 50:50 game most of the time. At crucial moments Taron put the ball down e.g. in the second game at 10-10 to lose 4 points in a row and in the third from 10-6 up to 12-10 down. Great game but 2-0 to Bude. Mark v Tim was going to be tight as Tim has all the shots but Mark has great drives and super fitness. Mark romped through the first two games as an out of practice Tim struggled to get into the game, The third game was different though as Tim's super volley boasts and delicate drops brought him a game back and in contention. It was 50:50 through the third but Mark's great consistency made it Bude 3 Penzance 0. The last match saw a fit and hard hitting Nick almost take the first game going from 14-12 down to 15-14 up. He won some super rallies with great fitness and mobility. The second and third were less close as Gordon started to dictate the play, eventually running out a 3-0 winner. Super match - all credit to Bude 2 who are looking good at the top. Lovely team match played in great spirits. Thanks Bude and to Phil for the great curry. |
