Report: | So we hosted the Truro juniors tonight, and things went largely as expected. The writing was on the wall at the end of last season, when we scraped over the line and wished them a cheery but heart-felt sod off to what we hoped would be a higher division for them this season.
The one bright spot for Bude tonight was that Rory, with his flair for unpredictable and in truth reckless play, either confused or intimidated an up-and-coming Joe into conceding a 3-0 win for the home side at 4.
After that, things deteriorated as we moved up the rankings.
In fairness, Mark and Lucas put on a fine show at 3 in an epic match that swung one way then the other until half-way through the last game, when the Truro junior showed his mettle and held the line in impressive fashion to take a 3-2 win. Not easy. Unlike most of the Bude team, Mark is actually fit and pushed the youngster hard. Might have been a very different outcome last season. Not tonight, though.
In hindsight, i think i maybe went easy on Myles, allowing his skill and speed around court to win out over my desperate attempts to play unconventional winners. I shall not be so generous next time, sunshine. Happy to salvage a game tbh - apparently it’s more than his dad can do these days :)
Nick was something of a sacrificial lamb at 1 and by his own admission got ‘violated’ by an indefatigable Lewis who was playing in second gear after the first game. He loves all that, though, so all good.
Well done Truro. Well played and great sports too.
But now seriously go away, ok? |
