Report

Report: PZ 1 Pirates first home match welcomed Truro 4 . You can never be sure of who may turn up when playing Truro such is their depth of squash players at the club.. We were happy to call up Club stalwart Mr Hatch at no 4.. Ian was up against the Master O65 County player Dave Matthew.. Ian started strongly and soon spotted Dave was not covering anything to the front of the court. He beautifully volleyed short and kept Dave guessing and ran out a comfortable winner . Gordon came up against youngster and fast improving Miles.. Gordon sneaked a very close first which is always a massive positive for us over 60's !! Miles played some lovely lengths and deft drops to take the second to square the match.. Gordon regained control as Miles seemed to tire thus made more unforced errors.. Gordon found his range and got over the line in 4 games.. Great start to the evening for the pirates.. They only need a game to secure the win.. Nigel at No1 came against a very focused Lewis another Truro junior vastly improved.. Lewis started off like a train covering every corner of the court with ease and went 8 /1 up Nigel fought back to level but Lewis pushed on and took the first. Nigel again competed and slow balled Lewis but his technique held and he took a close second and third. Very impressive performance from this young man a future County Champion in the making.. Wayne needed a game aganist Jonny to secure the win.. He did not disappoint and with some fantastic pick up with a mix of drops and lobs took a 2/0 lead.. Jonny gained some control and took the 3rd easily and the fourth. In the fifth Wayne regained his focus and ran out a worthy 3/2 winner.. A great win for the Pirates . Thanks to Phil for a lovely supper enjoyed by all.. Next match home v Falmouth next Thursday.. PS Great to see Jon and Katrina from Truro supporting ..
