Report: | Tonight’s writeup finds me at something of a loss. Not unusually, I played a youngster at 4 who will no doubt give me an absolute shoeing next year, but who struggled with my unorthodox game. I missed Jago’s match vs Wayne, but it sounds like a fair and hard-fought battle, with the Pirate outlasting the Bude man in the fourth after three close games.
But then we segued into an alternative reality where Mason didn’t dominate the first game before fading catastrophically and Robin didn’t serve out at 5 match balls up before finding a way to lose. Instead, they both stood tall and brought home the win in fine style.
Robin’s 5-setter in particular was the night’s stand-out performance and full credit should go to both him and Nigel for a punishing, unrelenting match played in the best of sporting spirits.
Nevertheless, this is unfamiliar territory. There is simply no piss to be taken. So I can only say very well played everybody. Always good to catch up with the Pirates in the bar afterwards. |

Away Report: | 'Always a tough place to visit Bude .Rob was to strong for our Ed who should learn from these awkward players he will come across.. Gordon found a very tough Ali on good form , a close 2nd that went Ali''s way and a comfortable 3/0 win.. Wayne looking in good form was pushed all the way by Jago although Wayne seemed that bit steadier on the crucial points. Nigel had a great game with Robin who''s backhand seemed on fire. Nigel will always battle and gained 5 match balls even to be awarded a stroke on match ball but decided to reply the point again. Robin rallied and ran out a deserved winner.A pleasure to play Robin. Great night that has fired us all up for the rest of the season.. ' |
