Report: | A pretty much full-strength Bude took advantage of a slightly depleted Falmouth side who were lacking both Toms at the top of the order. Newcomer Ajit played with heart and put in some good shots against me at 4, but experience carried the day. Robin made very short work of a rather jaded Billy at 3, the Bude man further strengthening his case for a higher team position after a couple of months of much improved form. Match of the night was the second-string battle between the wily Dave Crossley and a larger-than-life Mason, who evidently enjoyed his Christmas. The match swung one way and the other, with plenty of clever tactical play and precise winners, but also a fair few loose shots. Mason eventually prevailed, and will be better for the run. Credit to both players for a great show and a contest played in excellent spirits. The last match of the night pitted Chris against Christian and it was the Bude man who dominated, helped by an uncharacteristically high error count from his opponent. Christian seems to play a whole level better at home, and despite rallying to take the third, was on the back foot for most of the match. Chris, by contrast, was in bullish form, forcing the force early on and taking the win 3-1.
Far more importantly, pizza has returned to Bude team squash nights, a fact that left smiles (and tomato sauce) on everyone’s faces in the bar post match. |
