Report: | The Pirates welcomed Falmouth 2 to the Mennaye.. Tim Poole still smiling from his previous weeks win was up against another young keen Neil Jenkins. Tim looked in control in the first 2 games moving his opponent to every corner of the court.. The third game become very tight and with a match ball for Tim it looked dandy until Tim hit the wall and seemed to lose all movement.. Neil took the third and the Tim looked beat but some lovely lobs and in the critical part of the fourth game Tim al last started using his magical boost.. A great start for the Pirates with a win..
Nigel normally on last changed the playing order and went on next against a Fred with lots of shots and great movement.. A very close first that Nigel just nicked , the crowd were in for a entertaining game .. We thought ! Mid way through the second when the score was very tight Fred seemed to lose his energy and desire.. Nigel seized the opportunity and increased the pace.. Nigel took the second and stormed through the third only dropping 4 points. A much needed win for Nigel although Fred was not on top form recovering from a virus.. Perfect timing for the Pirates I would say..
Gordon on at 2 was up against a very underrated player in Huw.. The first game you could not split them although the ever youthful Gordon just managed to steal it.. Gordon struggled in the next 2 games with Huw taking control with his fantastic retrieving and wicked cross courts.. Gordon needed to reset.. Gordon found his length and width and started to regain his composure. So another week Gordon goes into the fifth.. Huw powered through but 2 valuable points gained for the Pirates that secured the win !
Adrian last on already aware the Pirates had secured the win could relax and enjoy his match.. Alex the Falmouth man soon worked out Adrian was not covering the drop so raced quickly through the first.. The second was a much better performance from Adrian using all his selection of shot managed to take it and level the match.. Alex returned to his short game and managed to keep Adrian stranded behind him and ran out a worthy winner..
Another win for the Pirates Over 60s team and looking forward to the next away match v Newquay at Truro School on Tuesday..
A lovely Phil Ruffel meal in the Bar afterwards with the Falmouth boys ! Great evening and thank you Barmaid Sally x
