Away Report

Away Report:'Bude took on the up-and-coming Truro Juniors for the second time this season - the previous 4-0 victory for Bude only six weeks ago meant that the visitors turned up at Truro Squash Club feeling confident.

Gary was first on court and played Joe. The first game was tight and, while Gary''s vast experience saw him through to a 3-0 victory, Joe put in a solid performance.

The second game was Bude''s last-minute sub, Jago, vs Lucas. Jago was cool under pressure and made Lucas do all the hard work. He looked in control until the third, when his fitness started to fail him allowing Lucas to take the game comfortably. Jago dug deep, though, and secured the fourth, winning 3-1.

The second string game was a repeat match-up of Robin vs Myles. Robin walked on court confident that he would repeat his 3-0 victory from the previous meeting; however, six weeks is a long time when it comes to the Truro juniors, and Myles took the first game 15-13. Robin came back on court with determination and upped the pressure. Although Myles seemed to be picking up everything, Robin was eventually able to grind out a 3-1 win, with both players leaving everything on the court. The first string game saw Chris play Lewis. Chris comfortably won the first game, although it appeared to take a lot out of him and he looked very tired. Great returns by Lewis saw Chris puzzled as to how to kill the ball, and Lewis was punishing Chris’s loose play. The constant chase saw Chris unable to keep up and Lewis took the next two games. The fourth could have gone either way, with Chris digging deep and finding a few lucky bounces to reach 14-14. However, it was clear at this point that Chris had nothing left in the tank and was trying to hit winners from the back, which resulted in a few tins and Lewis coming off as the winner 3-1. Over all Bude won 3-1, although it appears to only be a matter of time until Truro Juniors start to dominate the Cornwall leagues.'
