Report:What was billed as an important game for both Falmouth 3 and Bude 1 certainly lived up to expectations last night. The evening kicked off in style with 4th string players Dave Restorik and Gary Walton putting on a fantastic show of great lengths from Dave matched by Gary's infamous slice drops which he could summon from everywhere on the court. Going to the wire with all five games, Dave managed to edge ahead of Gary with length and drops and impressive fitness around the court to secure the first win of the night for Falmouth 3.

The 3rd string game between host Dave Crossley and Bude's Rob Irish showed why Bude are top of the division with a powerhouse performance from Rob. His fast pace, vast array of shots and pinpoint long and trickle boasts proved tricky on the night for Dave gaining the first two games. A slight glimmer came in the third with Dave throwing everything at Rob, playing a more attacking game with deeper lengths to win the third. However, it was short lived; Rob responded with a masterclass mixing drops with wide cross courts and ground Dave down forcing mistakes which Rob easily converted in style to win the fourth and the match.

One game to Falmouth 3, one to Bude 1, the second half of the matches proved equally as competitive with 2nd string players Christian Thomas facing Bude's Robin Craig. Robin came out of the blocks with fast, precise squash, perfect lengths and again those trademark lethal 'Bude boasts' knocking Christian off his guard. However at 4-12 down, Christian produced what has to be the performance of the evening winning the next eleven points to secure the first game. Boosted by this amazing display he battled hard against some great play from Robin but lost the second to Robin's tight high serves, consistent length and a few cheeky reverse boasts. However, Christian dug deep and played his natural game of good length and lobs to the back corners followed up with short drops to win the next two games and his match.

The last game; 1st string Tom Jay for Falmouth against Ali Mason had all the hallmarks of being a great match. However Ali proved too much on the evening for Tom with power, domination of the T and a variety of different shots to keep moving Tom around the court. Playing his usual fast pace attacking game, Ali was on tremendous form, taking the ball early to retain control of rallies. Tom did settle down in the second game, pushing up and played fine drives, good width cross courts and deft drops but Ali wasn't making any mistakes and upped his game further in the third taking the match 3-0.

Definitely the team to beat so far this season Bude 1 earned their stripes last night with a competitive, consistent performance that proved too strong for Falmouth 3 who took solace in many pints after the game :-).
