Report: | Cheers for TR3 for making the trip across to Falmouth for an important game of the season. FAL1 only playing their 3 Div1 players for the first time this season and TR3 with some notable omissions.
First up Matt v Callum. I started the match like a sloth, and the ever improving Callum took full advantage of this. He took the second in a closer tie, and somehow I managed to rally myself to take the 3rd and 4th. But Callum simply played better on the night, and had the well deserved win 3-2. His dedication to the sport and time on court clearly showing.
Jack and Rory played next, as the 1st string players showed yours truly how squash should actually be played. It was fairly tight in the 1st game, level at 7-7. But Jack managed to take the run of points from then on to win the game. It wasn't plain sailing, but Jack had the upper hand in the next two games and took the match 3-0. It's good to have Jack back!
Jonny was the 3rd match on, playing against Pete Walker who has been out for part of the season. Following the racketball tournament in Exeter the day before, Jonny didn't look too leggy, and it probably helped to get his eye in with some powerful drives moving Pete around the court. With some uncharacteristic mistakes by Jonny and some good shots by Pete, the 3rd game went to 10-10, but Jonny managed to clinch it to take the tie 3-0.
Last up was the 2nd string match of Martin v Dan. Dan playing up from TR4, he's cementing himself as a 1st Div player - taking martin to a five setter. Martin's experienced showed in the 5th game though, running away with 9 points on the bounce to take it 11-1.
Fal1 winning the match 14 -5.
Great pizzas and drinks in the bar after, cheers to Jonny and 5 Degrees for sorting. With one game left in the season it's going to be tight for both TR3 and Fal1 to stay up. An exciting finale... |
