Report

Report:Thanks to Truro1 for the good evening of squash in the new format season. It’s good to be back.

Both teams had a strong line up, with a few players missing due to absence and injury.

First up was Jonny vs Neil. After loosing to Jack in the Falmouth club champs (cracking match btw), he had a point to prove and didn’t let up on the first two games. A monster rally in the third took out his wind, and Neil’s experience allowed him to take the game. Jonny seemed to pick up his game again in the fourth to get over the line with his usual style.

Next up was the 4th string line up of Huw vs Elliot. Huw, like Jonny, stepping up from Falmouth 2. It looked like a close match on paper, but Elliot seemed to pick everything out of the air with some classy winners. Huw dug in to take the second, and a close game in the third, to which he was rocked by some 50/50 calls from yours truely. Elliot carried on with his finishing from the front of the court to take the win 3-1.

The game everyone turned out to see was next. The whole of Falmouth lining the stands to watch Jack vs Jarod. Following his victory in the club champs Jack was heading into the match on good form. And, although Jarod put up a good fight, dispatched the Cornwall county champ in straight sets. As well as skill and unbelievable fitness (he wasn’t sweating after the first game!), Jack also showed some good grit and determination, coming back from behind in the first two games. A super victory after a long journey back onto the court.

The final match was Martin vs George. George needing to win 3-0 to take the tie. Martin’s quality shone through though. The match was close, but Martin seemed to take a few more key points in each game. George dug in, which we knew he would, and managed to take the third. But Martin re-focussed and secured the victory for Falmouth against the reigning 1st Div champs. 13-5 was the final score. Looking forward to the return leg…

Thanks to all who came to watch and support, and cheers to Martin and Sarah at the club for the hospitality!
