Report: | It is never easy to play the Pirates on their home court in Penzance. A long trip and cold courts.
You will all be pleased to hear or read that additional heaters will be installed soon.
However, Truro 4 brought a strong side, confident to put an end to the Pirates unbeaten run.
And this is how Kat started the evening. She did not allow Phil to settle in his game, with perfect volleys and drops Kat put Phil under pressure, and took the match 3-0.
3rd string match, Wayne against Si, had the same result, with the Pirate taking control right from the start, and taking the match 3-0.
According to Squash Levels, there was a 90% likelihood that Ian would come out on top playing Dave.
But Ian knew never to underestimate the Master. Dave took the first 3 points, but Ian's serve and volley game won him the next 8 points, and the first set 15-4. Ian also dominated the next two sets on his home court 15-9, 15-6.
Now it was up to Jon to level the match against Nigel, and then start counting points.
Jon started off that way and took the first set 15-8.
But from the second set on, Nigel had all the answers. Volleys, lobs and the occasional drop unsettled Jon, and the Pirates No.1 took the next 3 sets 15-9, 15-8 and 15-13, to secure the win for the Pirates.
Fortunately this time the Club bar was open, and we could all enjoy Phil’s Curry and a few beers after the match.
