Report: | Tom had a difficult time lining up his Dragons for the return match at the Pirates.
But even without their regular Number 1, the Dragons came to Penzance to breathe some fire on the Pirates courts and get a revenge for the 4-0 defeat in October.
First on Dragon Mike against Pirate Nigel. Nigel took an early lead, but Mike fought back and the first game ended in a tie break.
After a long second game, which also went to the Pirate, Mike managed to win the third. Nigel felt Mike getting stronger, and with all his experience managed to close the match in 4.
Next on court Adrian against Paul. Even though the Pirates' courts were fairly warm on the night, Paul had difficulties getting used to the away court.
After being 2-0 down, Paul played a strong third game, but Adrian closed out the match 15-12 in the third.
Martin against Tim H., what a match!!! After Martin lost 3-0 to Tim in October, he did not want that to happen again. Martin was breathing fire, and took the first game 15-12. After a brutal second game, having two game balls, Martin could not close out the game, and Pirate Tim took it 17-15.
Now the fire went out, and Tim took the match, winning the next two games 15-7, 15-8.
The last match saw Pirate Ian battle Dragon Tom. Tom was determined not to allow the Pirates another 4-0 win, and took the first game.
Ian won the next two games, but Tom fought back, and took the match to a tie break in the fifth, which the Pirate managed to win 16-14.
It was a very nice evening, drinks and snacks by the courts, as the Pirates' bar closed early.
A big THANK YOU to the Dragons for fielding a team, despite Matt not being available and for putting up a fight. Great sportsmanship.
