Report

Report: The smell of revenge was in the air as the only conquerors of TR4 turned up at HQ ready for battle. The home team had all the big guns out but Falmouth 3 also turned up with a strong team as young Matt Stone was making a welcome return.
Deon and Alan got things going with a tie breaker in the first. Alan never really looked in the first game when he was 4-10 down but he started to settle as Deon got complacent and managed to get game ball before being shut out. Deon's teammates had a 'gentle' word in his ear and he then took the next two games with relative ease, so a good start for TR4.
Jon (OAP) v Pete 'ComeOn' were the next into the arena and the first two games went Jon's way with plenty of volleys and sneaky boasts. However, a combination of Pete raising him game and Jon realising that late boozy nights on a Saturday are not a good idea, meant that Pete took the third comfortably. I fact, Pete played several, impressive clean winners that even a 'sober' Jon would not have retrieved. Jon dug deep and started playing a tighter length game and managed to win the fourth. TR4 now 6-1 up.
It's great to see Matt Stone back on court after a 6 week injury lay off and we all felt he played extremely well considering his lack of court time. He's a rapidly improving player but he was unlucky to come up against Julian who is fine form at the moment. It was a good match to watch but Julian had a clear game plan and was ruthless when Matt was loose. Thus, the match was in the bag with TR4 9-1 up.
Last on was Pete v Huw. It was a classic! Pete started like a man on fire and won the first 15-6. He was 9-4 up in the second and seemingly cruising when Huw played a 'clinger' onto Pete's forehand. The ensuing smashed racquet was quite impressive with Julian sweeping up the shards of carbon fibre! The tide turned with Huw winning the second 15-12 and before we knew it Pete had broken another racquet (conduct warning!) with Jon very reluctantly lending Pete one of his precious Tecnifibres!
Pete put heart and soul into the third and stole it 16-14 but decided to have a breather in the 4th losing it 4-15! The 5th ebbed and flowed, most felt the marking was ok and Pete held a healthy 10-3 lead. Surely with his experience he'd seal the deal. Not when you have Huw on court with you. He's been involved in so many 5 setters over the years and he never gives up. So all credit to Huw for digging in and winning a thrilling match 3-2 and gaining bragging rights over Pete. Lesson for Pete: DO NOT go out out on a Saturday night with JW when you have a match looming!!
A good win for TR4 which keeps them at the top for now but tough matches coming up v Bodmin, Bude and PZ. Thanks to Pam for a great meal....nothing was left and big thanks to Fal 3 for an excellent night and great company as always.
