Report: | I've not been able to find the player names to add to the result....a glitch in the system. However, TR4 put out a strong side to 'welcome' Falmouth 2 fully aware of the battle for top spot in the division!
First on was Si Tai against Billy Lambert and the first 2 games were fairly tight but Si found a good length in the third and closed it out.
Next up was Matt Kemp taking on Christian Thomas. Matt powered through the first two games with some great winners. Christian found his game in the third with Matt taking his foot off the gas and was showing signs of tiring. Just as we all thought it was heading into a 4th with Christian leading 14-9, Matt came back to take a titanic game 22-20 and a 3-0 win.
Next was the old man Jon Wills against a very fit Tom Jay who had recently had the scalp of Hatchy....at Penzance! Jon started well but Tom soon realised that old squash players don't cover the front of the court too well and with some great drop shots got right into the match. In the end experience and sneaky disguise won the day but Tom is rapidly improving.
The final match saw Julian Roberts play Dr Tom and the scoreline does suggest a rather dominant display by Julian. Mind you, it was a match between 2 very improved players but at the moment, Julian has just taken his game to another level. Like the rest of the young Fal 2 team, Tom will continue to improve his squash level and enjoy the game which is what it's all about.
A real pleasure for Truro to host the young guns of Falmouth and a match played in great spirit was finished off with a Pam meal that hit the spot. |

Notes: | Great report, Jon, and looks like the glitch has been sorted. Phew, I was worried as it seemed to be all the teams losing their nominated lists of players.
A thunderous display by the Tr4 ‘A’ Team who put Fal2 without talisman and Capitano Oli to the sword in no nonsense fashion. This is obviously a statement of intent for their adversaries who will doubtlessly grit their teeth and eat more raw meat! Some hotly contested matches await us all so hang on to your hats as we enjoy a mad month of heavyweight knock-outs! Got a feeling it’s going to be tight between the three front runners with those last two TR4 matches away at BUDE and the PIRATES looking like sell-outs standing room only and X-rated....
Highlights gleaned from report, hear-say, gossip, WhatsApp banter and the inevitable fake news: 1. Matt K’s 22-20 v Christian(o) coming back from 14-9 down; 2. Matt K’s upmarket‘London style’ marking (what, you say, more than the hairdo?); 3. Old Man Jon’s classy W v the in-form Div2 player, rising star Tom J. 4. Julian’s performance which always deserves a mention (the squash wasn’t bad too!).
Shame none of you entered the NEWQUAY CLASSIC! (Pointed ginger and headmasterly tones!). |
