Report: | A cracking night of squash at Truro HQ which resulted in a home win for Tr4. The Pirates may have gone down first the first time this season but they retain a game in hand and are just 9 pts behind Gary’s sharp shooters. Jon took on a fit looking Hatchy in a match that the home player was expected to win. He did but it could have been different if the high flying pirate had taken the first! Both players have similar styles except Hatchy likes to clean the floor more! Nice game with plenty of tight winning shots! A great start for home team. Then up stepped Adrian v Truro favourite Si Tai. At 2-0 down it looked like Adrian could do no wrong then something clicked and the Taimenator got into full flow to claw back a 3-2 win with 15-0 in the 5th. Again, nice on the eye. The our overseas player the inexhaustible Deon took on Tim and that mighty boasting shot of his. After the first going to Deon the match then turned on its head and Tim looked in total control. Deon’s gets we’re at times top class and after weathering the storm he snatched the 4th to bring the scores level at 2 a piece. Another nice game! The 5th looked to be all Deon but Tim fought back gamely and had the chances to win. Deon crosses the line and with it the match was won. Unthinkable at the start given the great form the Pirates have been in. Then a clash of mega proportions as the Div’s top two number ones at present went head-to-head. Julian was definitely the better dressed of the two and unless you like lime green the less said about the Pirate #1’s crt attire the better! That aside it was a great match with both players having to dig deep in order to win points. 16-14 to Nigel then 16-14 to Julian! At 1-1 we’d already seen some great rallies but there was more to come! Nigel must have been hugely relieved to get his shots in and see Julian miss some sitters! Some relentless running ensued, back and forth with both showing no inclination to give up on any ball! By winning 3-1 eventually Nigel had indeed salvaged pride and 3 extremely valuable points. Truro diy our next week and the Pirates entertain Oli’s Fal2. Anything more than 9 pts will see them back in top spot. The top four teams are all capable of beating each other so it’s going to be interesting how Div2 pans out!
Man of the Match - Si Tai! A remarkable come back victory! |
