Report

Report: First game of the spring season at Western Terrace for Fal2 off the back of a disappointing autumn season, saw a strong TR4 team arrive for a double header alongside Bodmin2 playing Fal3. A changed team order, reflecting Tom J's consistent form last season, and the captains dip in form due to recurrent injury meant Tom H playing 1st string against Julian, eager to nab a cosy cabin on the sleeper train, as the first match.
Good quality squash was evident for the first game and a half, with very little between the two. Sadly Toms lack of fitness and Julians notorious ability to maintain a high pace meant the game slipped to a very one sided and deserved conclusion.
Christian vs Si Tai was a match of two halves, again the result dictated by fitness levels. Looking comfortably in control Si raced to a 2-0 lead before being pegged back gradually as he struggled to clinch the final game he needed. Even having match point in the 4th. Christian appears to have a bit of an addiction to 3-2 games, future opponents be warned.
Captain Oliie took his turn against the Master, who's intimidating County shirt proved the catalyst for a 2-0 lead before again fitness became an issue and Daves renowned pinpoint accuracy became slightly loose and Ollie ground away for a well earned win, playing patient squash.
Finally Deon took on the engine that is Tom J. Deon quickly realised everything, and we mean everything can be chased down by Tom, and so accuracy was crucial. He set to work playing very attractive clinical squash, which proved too much for Tom who admitted feeling tired afterwards, but then also stated he gave blood the day before.
The theme of the night seemed to be fitness, understandably after a festive break, Truro March on, Falmouth content with a reasonable showing. Dinner was civilised discussing the ethics of cuttlefish wearing 3D glasses.

Administrator Notes

Notes:Cuttlefish in 3D glasses sounds about appropriate given the characters involved and their high levels of grey matter! Rather cerebral considering the squash was evidently more Neanderthal and about fitness and running! Great to see Tom J higher up the order as reward for his continued improvement. Deon, meanwhile, is on a steep rate of improvement himself given his 4 years of absence from our beautiful game and his boundless enthusiasm to destroy all obstacles in his sights! Yes, even at tiddlywinks, I reckon. Oli will be delighted to chop The Master and especially from 2-0 down, a position the Truro veteran rarely loses from. The Master will be quiet for once! That’s the only silver lining. Si Tai is still trying to break his duck this season and came very near this time. He won’t be displeased with a five setter against Christian. Good win for Rhino! Jules is a canny player and I regret once telling him he needed to serve better! Tom will get better as a #1 for sure but needs to add some puff to that lovely style he has. Tr4’s squad is undoubtedly the strongest in the div but team rotation will dilute results, I suspect! I’m expecting Oli’s team to do better this half if they can keep fit. A double header evening and the ‘Invincibles’ Bude defeated at PZ in Week 1. That’s like Liverpool losing at Brighton in the Premier League. Pretty sure no-one from PZ will read this hence neck stuck out with that comment! It’s all sounding promising for some great team nights! Hold on tight, here we go....
Great report - Tom?
