Report

Report:An important match tonight between two of the top three teams. Bude needed not just a win but a good win. I took on Adrian at 4th string in a tense match that swung one way then the other. Adrian was boasting very well and played superior lengths, but I edged him tactically and took the match 3-1. Chris was on imperious form in his 3-0 win against the formidable Tim, dropping only 4 points in the second game. Easily Bude’s most improved player this season. Fin took on Nigel at 1, with both players going into the match unbeaten this season. Nigel played tenacious, disciplined squash, while Fin never settled, snatching at shots and making too many errors. Nigel won a deserved victory without conceding a game, which left the tie hinging on the match between Tremaine and Hatchy at 2. Given his absence from squash, I was concerned that Tremaine might fall victim to Hatchy’s magic racket skills, but I needn’t have worried. Tremaine’s fitness does not appear to have suffered from his absence, and he ran down every ball, much to his opponent’s vocal dismay. Another 3-0 to Bude, clinching the win. Pizza and beer in the bar afterwards but a relatively early finish, given the long drive home for the visitors.

Administrator Notes

Notes:Well done BUDE for knocking the Pirates off top spot. Sorry, had my Tr4 hat on there! Rephrasing required: well done BUDE for keeping your home record intact against a very strong and ambitious Pirate side! It’s looking tense at the top with three teams battling it out. I’m guessing every point will count between now and April though I suspect it’ll all hinge on the last two weeks! This BUDE win squeezes the top 3 together! I’m not surprised Nigel got the better of Fin but I’d never would have guessed on a 3 zip! Fin will have to put that one down to experience and I believe he’s on a good trajectory of improvement at the moment. Next time, as they say! Tremaine is obviously back and firing on all cylinders again. He’ll be crucial to Bude’s title hopes as will Chris who is beating all-comers at 3! Well done Rob for notching up the W v wily Adrian who certainly knows where to put the ball. A return to better form signalled with this fine 3-1 win. Always a great place to play even if the odds of winning are slim, glad you all had a good evening socially! Early finishing is a bonus!
