Report: | A one-sided affair on paper but several of the games provided stiffer challenges than the score lines suggest. Fin at 1 was always going to have too much for Francis, but the latter’s dogged retrieving and a high error count from the Bude no 1 meant that the 2nd game was closer than it perhaps should have been. Nick and Rob at 4 and 3 both took on younger, fitter adversaries in Dougie and Tom, respectively, and used their experience to good effect to offset waning athleticism. Robin was the stand-out player for Bude, with an uncharacteristically low error count and great court coverage as ever. A tougher encounter for him next week, perhaps against the (thankfully) inimitable Peter Keam? We shall see...
Great fun chatting in the bar afterwards, with Falmouth Uni slightly edging the Bude team in the (arguably more important) arena of ‘woke’ credentials... |

Notes: | Woke credentials I know not but I do know that the students would have enjoyed the hospitality of the BUDE team and playing on the famous ‘Barrington’ court! Like Capt. Rob says the score line in games won suggests a one sided affair but there were plenty of hard fought points and CSM can be pleased with their individual performances.
Note to students: playing at BUDE is rather like a rite of passage into manhood! Puts hairs on your chest, in other words!
BUDE bag 15pts to keep the pressure on the leading three. |
