Report: | More shrewd captainly team rotation and another 15 points for Bude. First up was Rob (me) against Harry in a true test of youth vs experience. Harry was ever so slightly quicker to the front, but I managed to pin him in the back for long enough to take the win, although it was ominous that he was volleying and reading my game better and better as the match wore on. Another fit improver who will no doubt dish me out a kicking next season! Ali started slowly against Andy at 2, but imposed himself on the match in the 2nd and 3rd with some disciplined rallies and good shot variation. The fourth looked like it might go to Andy, with the Bude player visibly tiring, but the Mace stayed strong and sealed another good win. Fin faced his nemesis at 1, having lost to Mike on the previous two occasions they have faced each other. There were some good rallies, but neither player really brought their A game and there was a fairly high error count. In the end, Fin was pleased to come away with a hard-fought 3-0 victory over the Bodmin captain, but it was workmanlike rather than scintillating squash all round. Performance of the night goes to Robin, who marked his seasonal debut with some trademark retrieving but, more importantly, managed for once to hit more balls on the wall than back at himself or into the tin. Martin made it a proper test but Robin’s new-found consistency, canny shot selection and tight volleying allowed him to run out a deserved 3-0 winner. Could we be on the cusp of a Chris Hemmerle-like transformation? Time will tell... |

Notes: | BUDE back to winning ways in the safety of their impregnable Fortress BUDE. Mike came close but it looks like playing more regularly means Fin will get stronger and stronger! Andy has team bragging rights on the way home with a game v Ali and Robin is looking imperious at his new elevated playing position of #3! Rob at #4 will be tough to beat with few 4s in Div2 with the playing nous to dislodge him from the T and those wristy returns he loves! Some ground to make up after the debacle at the Pirates but it’s possible if the away form is consistent! Bodmin can feel glad to get this one out of the way and have Tr4 at The Dragons Centre next week. PS Fin is now County Plate Champion - awesome displays at the weekend! |
