Report

Report: Truro 3 came to Newquay with a depleted team and with Newquay 2 also struggling for players it made for an entertaining encounter.

The precocious Russ Harvey went on first against the ripped Deon Chorley. The first game was incredible, it had everything long hard rallies with great length from both players. Russ just taking it 21-19. The second game was close as well with both players giving everything and Russ showing age is no barrier to great squash. Russ took the second game 15-12 but then Deon hit back taking the third. A lesser ayerr would have wilted but Russ pushed n winning the match inn four games.

Next on was Mike Morgan against Jon Wills. This match looked close on paper and it lived up to its billing. Mike took a while too get going and with Jon volleying ruthlessly into the Nicks the first two games were over in a flash. Mike managed to tighten up in the third and find his width and length, Mike taking the game 15-13.But this was Jon's night and he finished off with a 3-1win.

Next on was Dave Priem against Tim May. Dave started well and with Tim not appearing to be firing on all cylinders Dave quickly took a 2-0 lead. Tim never really appeared to get into the match and Dave ran out the 3-0 winner.

Last on was the irrepressible Jamie Lang against Pete Walker. It was great to see Jamie back playing team squash having had knee issues. Jamie didn't look like he had been off the court striking the ball sweetly and crisply and with Pete Walker not overawed it made for a great match with some great tight rallies. But with Jamie just too strong taking the match 3-0.

So Newquay take the spoils against a weakened Truro 3 although the return fixture could well be a different story!

Administrator Notes

Notes:Full credit to both teams to make the fixture happen. A number of teams are blighted by reduced availability of regulars and I can see a back log of fixtures mounting. TR3 seem to have the greatest number of absentees at the moment so thanks to Tim for keeping the team alive. Good to see Jamie making his first appearance of the season.
Reminder: reserves playing up can only do so 3 times without becoming team tied. Both Jon and Deon will need to watch this carefully. But, of course, big thanks for turning out for Tim and that is exactly what the playing up rule is for.
