Report: | Falmouth 1 had their top four players fit for this fixture, whereas Truro 2 were missing Owen (ankle) with Jack still on his way back from injury.
So always going to be a tough ask for Callum (vs Matt) and Joe (vs Martin). Both juniors found these matches very tough against better opponents. More work needs to be done in training and match toughness if they are going to compete at this level.
Jack’s 2nd match after a tough eight weeks out was against his first junior coach, Ben. This was a great match. In the first game Jack played some beautiful squash and seemed to be moving really well. The 2nd was a monster of a game, with both players playing fantastic, attacking squash. At one point Ben was 8-1 up, but Jack came back, in the end Ben won it 18-16. Brilliant. After that, understandably, Jack hadn’t as much energy as Ben. But Ben did play very tight, accurate and attacking squash. If he would have relaxed for a moment, you felt Jack would find a way back. Great win for Ben and Truro very happy to see Jack moving so well.
Louis vs Jonny next. In the first, Louis was building calmly off a very good length and attacking at the right time. A few too many mistakes from Jonny. In the 2nd Jonny cut his error-rate down and it was close. Louis winning 15-12. In the 3rd, at 1-1, Jonny broke down mid-rally with, what seems to be, a partial achilles tendon tear. Really tough as this may mean Jonny misses the rest of the season and that all important championship match. Felt for him.
So Falmouth 1 win 12-4 and Truro 2 need a few wins to avoid relegation. |

Notes: | Extremely bad news for everyone that Jonny pulled up with what initially looks like a long term injury. Falmouth have done so well this year and Jonny is a major factor in that. I'm cossing fingers and hoping the achilles tear isn't as bad as that - just hoping! Playing Louis is always going to be a physical battle which Jonny would normally lap up.
Good on the other hand to see jack making some progress back to full fitness. It's a demanding sport physically and we hope for TR2 and Truro School at the National Schools' Final on the 19th March that Jack gets back to his potential best form.
Shame about Owen too! Cross more fingers!
Good to watch Callum showing some improved court skills v Matt and Joe looks like he picked up some good points v Martin. The outcome gives TR2 4 valuable points and 12 for Falmouth. I have to say I think there will be a relegation come April so everyone needs to be aware of that. Thanks for the fine report again, Alan. |
