Report: | Truro 2 managed to put their strongest team out for the first time, while Truro 3 were struggling with a number of players missing. This was still a great match with many close encounters.
The 4th string match-up saw Ben and Tim play a very close and competitive match. Ben is becoming more patient, using his athleticism and great retrieval work to test his opponent. Tim used all his experience to win key points at the most important times in the match.
Owen started off very slowly, while Julian played great squash throughout the match. Going 1-0 down, Owen had to push in every game as Julian didn’t give up on a single point. Very good racket work from Owen, (with a few too many mistakes) and a really positive match from Julian, playing up from Division 2.
Jack has been out with injury for 4 months now, and with an important National Schools match next week for Truro School, he played Pete. In the 1st game, Jack’s movement, tactical awareness and racket skills, though restricted, allowed him to pull away. In the 2nd and 3rd games Pete tested Jack’s movement more, taking him to the front of court many times. Very close games, with some great squash, with Jack just managing to win in 3.
With Rory pulling out at the last minute with food poisoning, and Tim missing the Cornish Championships last weekend with an injury, Louis might have thought this would be a fairly easy victory. But Tim (in his usual manner) made Louis earn every point. With 35 years difference in age on the court, Tim worked extremely hard, focussing on every shot in every rally and pushing Louis all the way. Bodes well for Tim’s preparation for the Nationals coming soon.
So 13-4 win for Truro 2, but with some very close fought matches along the way. |

Notes: | JACK is BACK - HOORAY! However, Played 2 Lost 2 will be uncomfortable reading for the former serial winners of the Boardwalk Trophy. Tim has his work cut out now trying to plug the holes whilst his senior and better players find fitness again. Hat off to Tim who turned out against the ever-improving 'soon to be' starlet of Cornish squash. Although testing an injury it sounds like he gave the full county side debutante a run for his money! Tavistock team mates in the Plymouth District Company League too, teacher and pupil too - great to see! At 1,2&3 TR2 will be very hard to beat with this their strongest line up. Ben too is no push over with his athleticism and maturing selection of shots. Let's hope that Jack's return from injury continues without setbacks and that he soon finds his top form again. The ups and inevitable downs of playing sports! Anyway, TR2 bag valuable points and TR3 who were only just pipped to the Autumn League title by Falmouth have only 5 points after two matches. That's 10 matches to go but with Bude declaring their intention to accept promotion if they win Div2 again, everyone will be looking over their shoulder! It could be a dogfight down there! |
