Report: | Truro 1 were the visitors to Newquay 2 this week and with Matt Harford away at the National seniors competition Newquay had there work cut out in this top of the table clash.
First on was Mike Morgan against Zefran Counter this game was played at a high tempo and with a substantial difference in age between the two this could of been critical in the final analysis. Mike took the first game with some lovely touch at the front of the court, but Zefran hit back in the second putting a lot of work into Mike's legs. The third game was straight forward for Zefran with Mike looking tired and Zefran still full of beans. Mike came out fighting in the fourth but Zefran was too strong taking the match3-1.
Next on was Darren Shaw against George Martley. With Darren struggling for court time due to back problems this was always going to be a difficult match for him. The first game was extremely close with some tough rallies George managing to pip it 16-18.After that Darren's lack of court time appeared to show and George took the match at a canter 3-0.
Kevin Hugh went on next against the unpredictable Adam Ohara. Adam got off to the perfect start with a mixture of flash Nicks and hitting the ball incredibly hard into the tin, it was all or nothing Adam taking the first game 13-15.Kevin started too read Adams unauthodox game in the second and gradually ground Adam down but not without a fight. Kev running out the winner 3-1.
Last on was Dave Priem against Neil Counter. The first game was fairly close with Neil showing he hasn't lost any of his ability for retrieval. Neil taking the first 12-15. The second game was the best of the match with some good rallies and winning shots from both players Dave just taking it 16-14.Neils fitness then proved the dominating factor and with Daves waning Neil took the match 3-1.
So Truro 1 get a 5-13 win which puts them sitting pretty at the top of the table but with plenty of matches left in the season the title is certainly not done and dusted!! |
