Report

Report:Tr1 v Falmouth 1 first half league winners, without their number 2 tonight Falmouth were weaker than normal. Up first for Tr1 was Zefran Counter playing Christian Thomas. The first game was quite level at first with Christian playing a very good game but Zefran's speed and pace was too much for the fal no 4. The 2nd and 3rd games were not so tight for Christian and he went down 3/0.
Up next was Neil Counter and Matt Tamblyn. A very similar story ensued with the Truro vet playing some loose shots and the fal no2 making the most of it. At 14 all it was looking good for Matt but Neil managed to take it 17/15 and as in the previous match Neil found his form. It was down hill rather swiftly, another 3/0 win.
Steve Dickinson and Hue Gibbon were up next, the tr1 no 3 was struggling to find his form in the first two games and went 2/0 down with Huw playing some great squash but as they battled in the third the fal no 3 started to tire and Steve's game strengthened to take the next two. Huw tried his best but there was nothing left in the tank and a deserved 3/2 win for Steve.
So it was up to George Marley at 1 against the 'on fire' Fal no 1 Jonny Newton. What a match it was, both players playing to a very high standard and pace. It was the tr1 player who took the fist game, the second went to Jonny. The third was still full of great squash but the Fal player started to tire and made some errors which cost him that game, 2/1 down and not looking good for Jon. He dug deep and didn't stop running and hitting great balls. A lengthy 4th game - 14 minutes of it, saw George lose 17/15. All to play for now in the 5th with Jon looking very tired it looked like it would all go George’s way but another mammoth battle ensued, lets, strokes, volley nicks, pace, tight lines and lengths, what more could we ask for? George's stamina and determination paid off to take it, another 3/2 win for Tr1. A great night of squash was had by all, the scoreline doesn't reflect what a good night it was. Well done boys! 😊

Administrator Notes

Notes:I've heard so much about George's epic battle with Jonny! A 3-2 classic if ever there was one and well done to the TR1 #1 who must rate this, against in-form Jonny, as one of his finest displays in years! Well done to both players too for such a fine display and they even stirred Neil into writing a report, a fine one at that, so what could be more amazing! Stevie D needed all his reserves to overcome Huw, Matt taking the first against a lacklustre Neil would have been interesting for the rest of the match and a bit of a shame Martin wasn't there to strengthen the Falmouth bid for vistory. Well done Christian for deputising and showing his prowess v Counter Jnr - a tall order when Zeph is in the mood! I have to say TR1 look like the best chance for Truro to reclaim their former glory as the dominant club but it's early days and all to play for......
