Report: | A tight derby at Western Terrace, Fal3 missing their talisman Pete ‘The Post’ D Keam. Fal2 with a strong team.
The spectators were packed in, the heating cranked up.
A debut in the Cornwall leagues for Dave Crossley, who went up against the rapidly improving Tom Jay, Dave with his steady game, applied pressure to Tom Jay who was expertly disguising his drops. With the hot ball, the rallies were long. Dave managed to take the tie break fourth to take it to a fifth and final game. Where Dave’s consistency won the match.
Next up, an intriguing match between the slim line Christian and his technical prowess vs the competitive and rapid Matt Stone. Again the Fal3 player found themselves 2-1 down, but Matt battled away and had the edge to take the match 3-2.
Then it was the shirehorse (Alex) vs the Doc (Tom H), this really was finely balanced, the Doc winning a tie break in the fourth to set up another five setter. With the hot ball and amount of balls retrieved at the back of the court, it came down to mistakes which the shirehorse managed to avoid at vital times and managed to take the match.
Last up myself (Huw) vs the Vet (Olli), with the overall match win still in play, a scrappy match with all games close, the score not reflective of Olli’s determined play.
A competitive evenings squash played out in good spirits.

Notes: | Great report Huw and I love those deaby matches at THE CLUB! Some good encounters with fine wins for yourself, the Shirehorse, Matt and your newbie David (you do a great job of introducing new players). Slim line, the mean lean squash machine Christian will know he's been in a match with Matt who has already beaten some top players this season - me, for example. Neck-and-neck with TR4 I'm sure when you play us in a few weeks it'll be rocking at your place - who will go 2nd, I wonder? The Budists have built up a commanding lead at the top but will be weakened when Tornado Tremaine flies off to sunnier climes at the end of the month. Good match nights ahead, methinks..... |
