Report: | A vibrant atmosphere at Fortress Western Terrace, with two matches on, our match and on the neighbouring court Fal2 vs Bude.
Supporters from both Falmouth and Truro took their seats for the grudge match.
First up the dark destroyer Alan Pengelly vs a new player for Truro Matt Kemp, billed as a feisty player, complete with Gabor Kiraly (Crystal Palace goalkeeper) tracksuit bottoms.
A slow start for Matt, but very much a natural racket player, swishing the racket round like a wizards wand. Alan had to dig deep to keep on top. Matt will definitely improve when he settles into a few matches.
Next another on form player Matt Stone vs the veteran Robin, making a long due return to the Tr4 team. Matt started well but Robin showed all his experience to keep the pressure on, in the end Matt was too quick round the court and finished the game off well.
Truro had another player Deon returning to league matches after a four plus years away. Clearly an established player who caught the experienced Alex by surprise in the first game, Alex had to battle away and the third and fourth games went to the wire.
Last up, myself (Huw) vs the evergreen Julian. Following an early season defeat to Julian, I was keen on revenge. With home court advantage, my drop shots were effective for the first couple of games before Julian settled in and battled away with some winners of his own to get a game back before a close final game that could have taken it to five.
A much needed win for Fal3 to level up with runner up spot in the league with three games to go.
All four teams adjourned to the bar for the meal and refreshments.
A decent evening of squash with old faces returning and a new player joining the league. |

Notes: | Western Terrace graveyard for TR4 hopes of challenging for the Div2 title! A comprehensive drubbing at the hands of the Huwligans who could have a big say in who actually wins the division with just three matches to go. Gaza’s Truronians brought in two secret weapons in Deon and Matt but neither could produce the goods. Dropping the Keamanator was a smart move too. The TR4 WhatsApp chat group was busy all week with good banter before this defeat but with Bude their next opponents there is more nervousness than bluster! Huw’s men will hope TR4 can knock the stuffing out of them but I can’t see that happening. Anyway with both Bude and Fal3 in fine form the last deciding match of the division is - you’ve guessed it - Fal3 v Bude! Great report Huw and can you manage three more wins to be the undisputed best player in the division? |
