Report: | A good evening of squash at Truro HQ despite being informed at 20 to 7 that the TR4 #1 was poorly. His dad quickly filled in at 1 having stated the previous day that he would never play squash again and leaving his tea on the plate half-eaten at home! There then followed a highly entertaining match between Hatchy and Pete. The Pirate #1 stole the first game and gave the marker lots to think about but left his trademark dives (‘Whoosh!’ accompanied each) until later in the match when Pete was in the ascendency and about the close out the first bout! 3-1 to Pete and off he went back to finish his tea! Katrina, on her season’s debut, then consolidated the home side’s lead with an impressive 3-0 victory over the much-improved Quinny. It was a classic display of forcing the weak return and burying the next shot. Great serving makes squash look a simple game! 6-1 up in games to TR4 the Pirates looked in trouble but on bounced the unbeaten Tim to restore the balance with a very controlled 3-zip v Si Tai. It wasn’t until the third that the home player started to find better depth and length, especially with his much acclaimed lob serve, but by then it was pretty much over. Tim always knew when to boast Si Tai in and then smack it low and hard into the corners. Impressive and surely the best #3 in Div2 this season! 6-4 to Truro with just the twos to slug it out. A 3-0 win for Nigel would have been enough and certainly it looked like it was going to be that way as he comfortably took the first and had Dave in all sorts of bother. The crowd thinned noticeably as the Truro faithful slipped away quietly into the night expecting the worst. But ‘The Master’ had other ideas and his tactical shrewdness of playing high and wide on Nige’s backhand started to pay off. Those that stayed perked up, refilled their glasses and were treated to an exciting conclusion to the evening. First Dave looked on top, then Nige, then Dave again, nip and tuck....until Dave edged out the third 16-14! The 4th got even better with both players looking like they had taken something! Surely no-one runs like that at their age? Nigel looked strong at 12-9 but Dave drew level and snatched it 18-16 after facing three game balls against! Sexy squash all the way! Well done you two but PZ away is another proposition altogether but for now we’ll bask in the glory! A very unexpected W and 12 fine pts to lift the Truronians back in top spot at least for a few days! Great evening and a match played in the right spirit. Pam’s Hot dogs followed..... |

Away Report: | ' Tonys report says it all and Pirates in foreign waters is a different game to the home turf. Thanks to Truro for enabling no 1 string to play first as Ian had to get away. Wayne is learning and improving every game so will relish a return match. You rightly identify Tim as a point taker for the Pirates this season and even harder to beat at home. Ian will always give a performance to keep the spectators or spectacle entertaining a same the points didn''t reflect this. Nigel again a good bet to put in a sound game his fitness and agility just to add to be a left hander also makes for very watchable games. ' |

Notes: | TR4 top with 9pt advantage over the Pirates but the Budists poised to retain the #1 position if they beat Bodmin Dragons on Thursday. |
