Report

Report:Bude were just too strong overall for TR4 tonight with one notable exception in the form ‘The Master’ who produced yet another stunning display to halt Ali’s impressive five match unbeaten run. Dave is in great form ahead on the County Masters this weekend and the West of England Masters in Winchester the weekend after. His only defeat this season was at Bude in the away fixture against Chris, for anyone wondering! Ali looked quite bewildered coming off court - it was his first experience of playing The Master. We’ve all been there, Ali! First on was Katrina who went into this match with a hatrick of fine wins and high hopes of beating Rob. Though not yet firing on all cylinders Rob had far too much in his arsenal of shots for the county’s leading lady player. Kat did take the second in considerable style 15-7 with some outstanding squash but the Budist’s skipper didn’t disappoint his team mates in the gallery from then on. Chris v Russ was an intriguing match up and I felt sure the TR4 reserve would cause quite a few problems for the in-form Bude #3. Chris is certainly going from strength to strength and in the end it was his fitness and speed which were the key to another good win. Top billing tonight and with the crowd settling in cold beers in hand was Jules v Fin. Jules outclassed Fin in the first with an exemplary display of varied body serving and pinpoint dropping on both sides. The junior then found his rhythm and dominated the T to take the next two very convincingly. We thought that was it but Jules is a canny player and doesn’t know when he’s beaten. The 4th was the most entertaining game of the whole evening as the score line of 18-16 testifies! Jules had his chances to level it but at the death it was another fine counter drop which gave Fin the victory and condemned TR4 to their second defeat in as many weeks. This slump in form moves them out of the top two for the first time in weeks and means Rob’s charges have a clear run in to the title with just Bodmin at Bude Fortress to negociate - high hopes of 15pts - before the final match against the Huwligans at Falmouth by which time they should only need a few points to get over the line. I have a strong feeling of deja vu! A good, sociable evening had by all. Well done Bude.....
