Report

Report:A most unexpected result tonight - without Tremaine or Chris, Bude were expecting to have a serious battle on their hands tonight against what looked on paper to be a strong Pirates raiding party. As it turned out, a combination of home turf advantage and a hopelessly injured Hatchy meant that the tie was a lot more one-sided than anticipated. Tony’s 3-0 victory against the much improved Wayne at 4th string was a triumph for guile and experience over athleticism, Tony dictating the pace and sending Wayne scampering to all four corners of the court. Meanwhile, Rob (me) took on the ever-green Tim at 3. I was keen for revenge after last time, when Tim handed me a brutal drubbing at Penzance. Upping the pace of play seemed to unsettle my opponent, allowing Bude to nick another 3-0 result. Fin against Hatchy at 1 was unfortunately a non-event as Ian gamely tried to battle through injury to no avail - a real pity since their tussles are usually great to watch. The match of the evening was Ali vs. Nigel at 2. It proved a genuinely tight battle with excellent volleying and length play from both players. Nigel’s superb court movement put Ali on the back foot in the early stages, before the Bude juggernaut found his length and started to dominate the T. Top-notch tactical advice from his captain between games and some strong refereeing from team-mate Tony helped Ali to win by the tightest of margins in the 4th and avenge his away loss to Nigel. Looks like it will be nip and tuck at the top at the end of the season...

Away Report

Away Report:' Bude at home always difficult this fixture no exception. I know all Pirates cant wait for the next meeting as these close encounters are sometimes hard to predict. Lets hope the Pirates will have a better result at home next week. Just to add to the long trip home A30 shut so detour required some times things just don''t go right.

Administrator Notes

Notes:Fortress Bude and the inevitable home win! Hatchy did his best and with an injury probably didn't even do any dives! Ali pulled off a great win to underline his solid improvement up the rankings and avenge an earlier defeat by Nigel who incidentally is by far the on-court fashionista we should all not aspire to. Tell me who else goes on court like that? I'm sure their battle was great on the eye! Rob is obviously on the mend and playing better. A win against Tim will do nicely as they're hard to achieve. Wayne will probably want to forget this one but great to see the battling Saxton back in Bude team colours. Tremaine was not missed then!
