Report: | A typical late-season match, with both teams somewhat under-strength due to absence and injury. Now that Chris has worked out what the red lines are for, there’s seemingly no stopping him and he cruised to a comfortable win over Darren at 2 despite some very competitive rallies. Nick got off to a flying start against Martin at 4, filling in manfully at near zero notice after ‘Snowflake’ Saxton pulled out with a poorly knee. He took the first game in style and came within a whisker of taking the second before Martin found his length and tightened up on the error count to take the match 3-1. Rob (me) was next up, taking on Harry (son of Andy) Aherne, yet another fit youngster who looked like he was ready to run all night. In my book, this rather goes against the spirit of the game, so I looked to take points quickly with a mixture of mis-hits and unorthodox shot play. Fortunately it was enough on the night - if Harry perseveres and adds a measure of his dad’s guile to his game, I’ll make sure someone else gets to play him next time. Match of the night was Fin vs Mike at 1. Fin was keen to avenge last season’s defeat at the hands of the Bodmin captain and took the first game, but Mike fought back gamely to take a 2-1 lead before the match swung again and we went to a 5th. My money was on the younger player at this point, but a few scrappy errors from Fin and some eye-popping retrievals from the red marauder saw Bodmin take the spoils. A thoroughly enjoyable night with good vibes all round, and Bude still unbeaten. Falmouth 3 - you gotta ask yourself one question ... do i feel lucky? Well, do ya? Lol |

Notes: | Champions BUDE on the home straight and Nick gets a run out as well. Mike’s (the new Mike that is) retrieving would have frustrated Fin who perhaps needed more patience. Any win at BUDE deserves a medal of some description so full marks to the Dragons for bagging two, Mike’s and Martin’s. New dad Chris will claim Player of the Season at the Christmas dinner, for sure. Great to see Harry (son of Andy) getting consecutive games under his belt. A thoroughbred with his parentage, he’s got to be one for the future. Well done, Rob, beat the youngsters while you still can! Next time may be different! Bodmin visit Gaza’s TR4 nex tv Monday while the champs can enjoy themselves at Falmouth central again the favourites for RU! |
