Report: | “Not exactly looking forward to the rematch on the renowned cold Pirate's home court!”
A quote from Mike’s home match report.
And how right he was in early October. Not only did The Dragons have to battle on the cold Pirates courts, and cold they were, but had to fight traffic and snow (turned out to be hail) on their way down to Penzance.
Pirates, this time without Ian, still managed to put out a strong side, with Adrian back in action.
Wayne took the first game, which could have gone either way, 15-12, got stronger in the next two games, beating Matt 3-0.
Next on court Adrian against Harry. Experience against youth, and also Harry just coming back from an injury, saw the game going to The Pirate 3-0.
Tim started extremely well taking the first game, but the second game, 16-14 to Tim, already suggested that Darren had a plan B against Tim’s mix of shots on his cold home court.
Darren took the third 13-15, but Tim came back too strong in the fourth taking the match 3-1.
Nigel against Mike, the match of the night. Mike told me before the match that he recently played well and had some great results against stronger players.
And he showed it again against Nigel. Some errors on the unfamiliar away court, and of course Nigel’s experience, kept Mike from taking the match. All five games produced some great squash, very close rallies, with Nigel coming out on top 15-11 in the last game.
A nice evening, good company, nice food from Chef Phil, and I hope The Dragons had a safe journey home.

Notes: | Another home win for the Pirates! Tim back into his comfort zone with a win, Nigel (aka the bandana man) and Mike running all over the place and wise head Adrian giving debutant this season ‘son of’ Andy a lesson on that very special court. Quincy too back to winning ways. Yes, the temps have dropped recently and those micro heaters at PZ may just need supplementing with a warm air blower. Mind you, I blow hot air all the time, figuratively speaking of course! Fine report stand-in skipper and let’s hope Hatchy gets over his elbow prob soon! |
