Report:And so the season begins.
A double header at the fortress Western Terrace brought a good crowd and a sense of occasion.
First up Alan Pengo Pengelly got the team match going, a competitive match with Matt Greenwood, honours even at 1-1 before Alan's movement put the pressure on and he managed to take the win 3-1. Next up with great fanfare, was Peter The Terminator Keam, his presence ramped up the atmosphere and he went about his business with flair. Another competitive match, with Andy Speedy Yardley and his brand of consistent composed play. This match was difficult to call, Andy took the first game putting Peter under pressure, but Peter dug in and with some great shot play coupled with some surprisingly agile movement managed to see the match out 3-1.
Darren I understand is returning from injury, the shire horse Alex was on form and from the start put pressure on Darren and managed to trot to a 3-0 win.
The final match was between (myself) Huw and Mike. Mike had won the two spring league matches 3-2, both epic encounters.
Mike started strong and easily won the first game, I managed to snatch the second. The third went all the way, with Mike showing composure to take it 18-16.
Both players tiring now, however Mikes racket skills and effective retrieval at the front kept him very much in the game, the 4th was a quick game, with Mike saving himself for the big finale. The last game was a slog, both players folded up in the corners. The bar had been busy so the atmosphere was really cranked up. At 13-13 it was a very close affair but I just managed to get the win.
The double header was a success. Both teams had support from non playing team members and the Falmouth coaches were in support.
An enjoyable start to the season...

Administrator Notes

Notes:Indeed it was a cracking start to the season at Fortress Western Terrace although in the other match TR4's fortunes v Fal2 were the reverse of Bodmin's plight with a good 15-1 W in the bag! Great report Huw and what a performance that final game was between you and Mike. A very fitting climax to a splendid evening's squash, like two pros putting on a masterclass for the rest of us to sup our pints and applaud or jeer as it was very partizan! This time Huw prevailed and deservedly......Great atmosphere!
Bodmin Dragons have a glut of players this season so let's hope they all stay fit for the captain's sanity! Good to see new blood with Darren who looks a tidy player if a little off the pace at the moment. Fal3, 'The Huw-guenots', look feisty and mean and I can't see them losing many though they might find it harder at Truro HQ on Monday v TR4! An early season clash between Autumn League title hopefuls and arch rivals.......and Kerry will have her work cut out beating that chicken curry we had at the Fortress!!!
Note to Admin: Mr Keam - The Terminator - still to register? Darren too!
