Report: | Good to have Newquay 1 down to Falmouth for our first home game of the season. Top credit to Phil Thomas for making the mammoth trip down from Launceston, although I dont think his MacDonalds gave him the boost he was hoping for.
Match report:
First up was Alex 'Old shire horse' Head, who went on very confident against Meggo. After Alex won the first game he seemed on good form, but Carl crept back winning the next three games and played some very good shots to win 3-1.
Next up me (Matt T) vs Matt Waterton. We seem to be on about 50/50 for winning, and tonight was not my night for good shots despite running a lot. Well done Matt winning 3-1.
Next up Martin vs Mark Howeth. It looked pretty even to start with, Martin played lovely lobs and Matt's power was pretty impressive. Unfortunately for Martin it seemed Mark got a second wind and was flying around the court playing some epic shots. Mark won 3-2.
Lastly was the big game. Having never played each other before I thinking Jonny was pretty keen to show his stuff. With Phil still a bit slow from his burger, Jonny played the best squash I have seen at Falmouth. His movement was on form and his shot selection was varied and very tight. There were no disputes (the ball didn't hit anyone's shoulder either), and both players made every effort to hit every shot. A real show of good sportsmanship. Fingers crossed Jonny brings this to every match. |

Notes: | Jonny the Man! MH gets a 2nd wind and the case of Phil's burger. Sounds like a cracking night! Meggo beating Alex will put a smile on his face, maybe not so for the Shire Horse! NQY1 will relish the chance to take on TR3 at TRHQ soon! Martin summed it up - Great night for the NOBs but I'll add 'Jonny' to that! Onwards and upwards.... |
