Report: | Falmouth travelled to Newquay still with the possibility of taking the Christmas title and with Newquay 2 looking to stave off relegation it made for an electric atmosphere!
First on was Dave Priem against Matt Tamblyn. Dave started well and with Matt taking a while to adjust to the warm courts Dave took the first. Matt hit back in the second putting some work into Dave's legs. In the third game Dave started to dominate the tee again and take the ball early Dave winning the third 15-8.The fourth game was close with Matt fighting all the way.Dave just managing to see the match off in four games.
Next up was Mike Morgan against Peter Keam. With these two giants of the squash court playing with the each other it made for a fascinating game contest. The first two games were close Mike using his power and touch to keep Peter moving from corner to corner. Then Peter hit back in the third with some nice tight squash and touch at the front of the court. Mike then regained focus in the fourth to take a hard fought match 3-1.
Darren Shaw went on next against Martin Thompson. Darren got off to a great start with both players hitting the ball extremely hard and tight, Darren taking a 2-0 lead. Martin appeared to relax and refocus hitting back with the next two games to level it a 2-2.But Darren wasn't to be denied winning the fifth 15-10 and a great result for Darren!
Last on was Matt Harford against Jon Newton. With Jon flying out the blocks and playing with the at a incredibly high pace and intensity. With Matt the elder statesman finding it hard to cope with Jon taking the first 15-6.Matt appeared to regain some Composure in the second, and although Jon took the game Matt looked to have weathered a storm. Unfortunately in the third Jon aggravated his shoulder and although continuing to the end of the game could not carry on!
So a great night's squash with Newquay 2 taking the spoils and finding life a lot easier when getting the mainstay out of their team out. |

Notes: | Probably the strongest line up the champions have managed this season so far and such a relief for Capitano Dave! Needless to say what followed was their best win of the present campaign so perhaps some sympathy for high flying Falmouth to have the misfortune of playing the strongest version of NQY2! All this just as squeaky bum time comes around. Jonny et al will be miffed but sounds like there were some good competitive matches. Darren will be cock-a-hoop to get one over stylish Martin and Pete, the Keamanator and recent winner of the O45 county masters’ plate will be similarly satisfied to push Mad Mike as he did! Dave has a good win and Matt looks like he’s coming back into form though worrying that Jonny hurt his shoulder. TR3 won’t mind this result at all - looks like their title to lose! Fine report, Dave. Thanks. |
