Report

Report:Another season got underway with Newquay 2 hosting Bodmin Dragons.

Mike Morgan was on first against Matt Nicholls a new addition to the Bodmin team. Matt got a early lead with his unorthodox style, but Mike managed to pull the first game back winning it 15-10. After that it was pretty much plain sailing for Mike taking the next two games with a fair a fair amount of ease.

Darren Shaw went on next against Max Knightley, on paper this looked like a close match up, but with Darren slow out the blocks Max cruised the first game 15-5. From then on Darren was always on the back foot, and despite some hard fought rallies Darren could never get himself back into the game. Max taking the match 3-0.

Dave Priem was on next against Rhys Parry, these two players having a great match last season. The first game was close Rhys prolonging the rallies and taking it 15-13.In the second game Dave started to push up onto the Tee and take the ball early which seemed too work, Dave taking that game 15-1.The third game was 15-4 with Rhys picking up a back injury at some point. Unfortunately Rhys was unable to continue in the fourth game.

Last on was Matt Harford against Chris Adrian. This was another tough match to call. The first game could of gone either way, with some lovely tight squash from both players,Chris taking the game 15-13. Matt got a early lead in the second but Chris managed to claw it back winning the game 15-10.The third became a bit tense with both players making mistakes due to the pressure they were under. Matt taking the game 16-14. In the fourth the difference in age between the these two may have told as Chris appeared to have more left in the tank. Chris taking the fourth 15-8 and the match.

Another very close encounter for Newquay 2 against Bodmin. With Newquay 2 just taking the extra three points on count back. Newquay 2 will need to improve if they want to hold onto their title.

Administrator Notes

Notes:The Champions kick off the new season against the Slayers and a close one it was too - A COUNT BACK! Great win for Chris at 1 and equally great to see him back in action! Matt is the thinking man’s squash player so legs will I’m sure he will come back with a better game plan. Max too was in the mood. Ruthless, it looked and no messing in the first. Darren too has lots of experience and this will be corrected for sure! The Champions turned the screw at 3 and 4 to find the escape lane but I hear Rhys had his chances against Priemy!?! Hope the back clears up for Rhys who is a key player for the Slayers. Welcome to newcomer Slayer Matt who will surely find his feet more as the season progresses! Mike, on the other hand, looks pumped up, mean and ugly (sorry for this adjective but hey!) - first on, first W. Clinical! Questions to be asked: 1. Will the Champs be motivated enough after last year’s all-conquering total euphoria? Bad seasons often follow success like that! 2. Will the Slayers be stronger with more depth in their squad? Injuries - who needs them!?! 3. Will the chicken in a basket at Weatherspoons be better than the ham, egg and chips at NQY Sports Centre? These are more discussion points on 5 Live this evening.....
PS Great report Priemy!!!
