Report: | A big night in the Falmouth squash world with a lot of support and a lot of people hoping that Fal 1 can get enough points to beat TR3 and win the Autumn league.
Huw made a comfortable win over Callum (3-0). I was doing well against Joe, but eased off a bit in the 3rd game, still got another 3 points for fal (3-0).
Martin up next. Owen looked on form and took the first game 16-14 with the crowd sat with sweaty palms knowing that we needed a few more games to win the league. Marting seemed to be more acutely aware of his dream of winning the 'Autumn 2019 Cornwall squash Div 1 league trophy' (what a title) so pushed it to the max and won the next 3 games to win 3-1. He had another little push from Peter D Keam (what is his middle name?, I am not even sure it exists), who called championship point just before Martin won, there is still some debate as to whether this caused more confusionas opposed to motivation.
Jonny vs Louis was next. The game everyone thought would be closer than it was. Jonny took all the risks with trying to play winners, but too many tins allowed a very steady and consistant Louis take it in 3 games. Louis wins 3-0.
Over all a top night. Falmouth win Div 1 under the captaincy of M. Tamblyn (could this be west britain worthy, perhaps not, but a picture will have its place on my fridge).
See you all in spring. Fal are warmed up ready for some more action. |

Notes: | Congratulations to the Autumn League Champions Falmouth 1! You made it by two points so it was indeed an anxious but still very doable night at Falmouth HQ. Louis seems to be improving almost between meals and has the growing athletic statue now to upset anyone. Jonny must have been relaxed about it knowing it was effectively over. Just as well! Next in line of fire for Louis would be Jared so we may have to wait for the County Champs at the end of January for that encounter. Owen taking the first would have caused some squeaking of the Falmouth faithfuls’ posteriors for sure but Martin had a cool head and the shots to outgun the sprightly and rapidly improving youngster. Mat and Huw would have too much firepower and court nouse (and motivation) to let Joe and Callum trouble them, this time anyway! So a great end to the first half of the season for Falmouth and very well deserved given their overall better consistency. It’s worth reflecting however, that over twelve matches and 3 months of competition it may just come down to as close a margin as one or two points!! But that’s where we get the excitement!!! Christmas came early in Falmouth - well done captain Matt!! |
