Report: | 1st match up was Russ against Ben. After a successful weekend of Inter Counties, it was sobering for our Juniors to play Newquay players who played good squash with experienced heads. Russ played great length and depth and didn’t seem to tire against an athletic Ben. Russ continued to play one extra shot and ‘put the ball where Ben wasn’t’. Simple and very effective. He read Ben’s drops and just had a little bit too much in the end.
Darren and Owen was another great example of a senior player just having a little too much for his Junior counterpart. Close match with some great rallies, but eventually Owen’s error count was the difference. Darren’s retrieving was phenomenal and when he was put in the front of the court he often knew what to do to put Owen in trouble.
So with the walk-over at 4-string, Louis needed to win against Matt to secure the points. Louis played his usual strong squash at high-tempo, which was a little too much for Matt (coming back from injury) in the first two games. In the 3rd, Louis ‘took his eye off the ball’ and Matt played great squash to take the game. A re-focus for Louis meant that he took the 4th game and the match. Great that Matt played such good squash all the way through the match considering he hasn’t had much recent match practice.
So Truro 2 won the match 12-7 with Jack still injured. First win for Louis over Matt and, hopefully (for Cornwall), our Juniors are benefiting from the experience of playing our very experienced senior players. Truro 2 may just scrape themselves off the bottom of Division 1 with this Double-header. |

Notes: | Exceptionally circumstances made this match a double header, as agreed by the CCSRA Committee and both captains. Good win for the lads and more good experience for this year’s schools campaign. Note that a replica match is entered for this match but only one set of results, just the three rubbers played, will upload onto Squash Levels. Tony |
