Report: | Callum has been playing really well recently, but Carl was on top for most of the match. Too many unforced errors and not enough pressure to push the Newquay man. Comfortable 3-0 win for Newquay.
Each game between Joe and Andy was close. Andy has such a lovely short game and touch that Joe had to keep it away from his racket with good length and width. Not quite enough of that to beat Andy, though Joe did well to win 3rd game, and with a bit more experience he could have got closer. Good 3-1 win for Andy.
Last match in Newquay, Own lost quite straight-forwardly to Matt. This time Owen was definitely on the front foot and went 2-0 up with some great squash. The third game was a cracker, with Matt eventually winning 24-22! Luckily for Truro 2, Owen went on to win a close 4th game 15-12. Good match and great to see Owen continuing to improve.
On the other court, Louis was on against Mark. Mark was coming back from injury - though you wouldn’t have known. He played brilliantly to win the 1st game 15-11. In the 2nd and 3rd games, Louis played a better length and width, constructed his rallies and made Mark play one extra shot. Looked like it was going to be a 3-1, until Mark won a very close 4th and we were into a 5th. At this point, Louis pushed on and at one point was 11-1 up. He eventually won it 15-6. Mark played some great squash, and as usual these days, Louis played with great quality and control -way beyond his 15 years.
So eventually it was 2 matches all, but Newquay won 12-7 on games count-back. Congratulations to them. Good matches with invaluable experience for Callum and Joe. Tough games for them, but I am sure playing these matches is helping their development. |
