Report

Report: Visitors Truro 1 were up against a Newquay 2 side who were bringing in some young blood to try and put the breaks on what appears to be a possible nose dive into division 2.

Henry Geale was making his first appearance of the season against a very tough number 4 in the shape of Zefran Counter. With Zefran getting into his stride very quickly and Henry showing signs of first match nerves, the first two games were over very quickly. In the third game Henry relaxed a little and produced some quality shots, and with some fast pace rallies made Zefran work for the win.

Another youngster Milo Locke made his first appearance this season for Newquay 2, He was up against Steve Dickinson. In very similar fashion to the first match Milo took his time to get going, Steve taking the first two games games with ease. Milo hit back in the third, getting to grips with Steve's game and changing tactics. Milo taking the game 15/13.The fourth was close but Steve steadied the ship and closed the match out 15/11 and take the win 3/1.

With Mike Morgan pushed up the order again he had his work cut out against Neil Counter. The first two games were reasonably close with Neil's retrievals as good as ever.,Mike making mistakes at vital times. The third game was close all the way through, and with a tough couple of decisions for the marker Neil managed to to get over the line 16/14 in the third.

Last on was Dave Priem against George Marley. With Daves days of playing at one behind him this was a tough ask against a very talented opponent. George took the first game 15/9 with hard hitting, volleying and plenty of deception. In the second Dave looked like he might be bagled but managed to get some late points. The third was a bit closer with a few errors creeping into George's game. George taking it 15/12 and with that the match 3/0.

So with Newquay 2 free falling into oblivion its gonna take something out of the ordinary to get them back on track!!

Administrator Notes

Notes:Great report Dave and big thanks for keeping the team going when your big guns are out! Playing at 1 again this week so I’ll bet you’ll be glad when the ‘pretty boys’ are back. Big thanks too to Milo and Henry and the silver lining is your reserves will get stronger with games under their belts. NQY’s youth policy in action! George looks like he’s finding form again, Neil would be too agile (the girls say he’s a great dancer too, by the way - once described as a ‘chick magnet’, can you believe it!) for Mad Mike but wasn’t that far off. Don’t worry, I’m safe, Neil (aka Crazy) never reads any reports. You made a good night of it in true NQY fashion and not sure about the nose dive when you have the likes of Matt, Darren and Jamie out for varicose reasons. Oops, I meant various. All the best and get those pretty boys back! Note to Admin: should have mentioned this was TR1’s first scalp of the season from 5 and it’s almost Halloween! It’s been a horror show so far for them.....
