Report: | Fresh off their impressive win last week, TR5 came bounding into the match with their tails up. First the Wizard (Tony) played the Shire Horse (Alex), Alex managed to get 2 games up, before Tony impressively waved the wand to level the match before Alex mustered up some power and managed to see out the match. Next up big hitting O'Hara took on Peter D Keam. The first game passed without a rally. Adam's cannon levelled up the match before Peter settled into the match and picked off Adam with some measured play. One of Fal3's new players Matt showed some impressive court craft and a range of shots to see off a battling Rich.
Finally Seb and I (Huw) had a closely fought match, with a high pace and lots of running.
All 8 stayed for food, overall an enjoyable team squash match with some close games/matches.

Away Report: | Falmouth have great strength in depth this year and seem to have a good treadmill of reserves. This all bodes well for the famous club and for the leagues in Cornwall. They need to keep teams in both divisions, let’s hope so. Great to note some very assertive but fair and impartial marking by the home team. There are a few from the Falmouth teams of old who would find this quite a culture shock. Not quite turning in their graves yet but it certainly didn’t happen in the Moody, Tas and Co days of yore! I’ve a few stories I could tell. Often the opponent wasn’t the problem, the bent marker was! Not a hope of winning! Great to see it’s not like that anymore, keep it up! |

Notes: | Great report, Huw, and equal to your impressive win over young Seb! You look in top form so the other ones had better watch out! It was indeed quite a disappointment for us given our big win last week against title hopefuls Bude. I really enjoyed my hit with Alex but ran out of steam and ideas in the 5th, a regular occurrence these days! Pete v Adam didn’t quite live up to the pre-match hype and Matt made short work of Richie who came determined to put in a good shift. Seb can hit volleys almost at ceiling height - we were all young once - and the ground strokes you both played were like bullets bouncing low into the corners. The most effective weapon in your arsenal was the low, hard serve into the wall which Seb couldn’t help but step into and miss. In all a reality check for the boys in blue but confidence is high for next week against fellow strugglers Fal2. With Fal 1 misfiring in Div1 with both Jonny and Martin injured I think Huw’s team had better go full on for promotion. Anyway, a great evening, result aside, and all the best at the Pirates next week. |
