Report: | Gritters and falling temperatures did not cool this hard fought encounter. New to the Pirates Wayne battled hard and thought it through to win. Returning Captain Gareth a little rusty (comes with age) could have done with a few more games to get going game scores improving but not close enough to Seb so a 3/0 loss. It was looking quite even when the hard serving Adam and Gordon clashed horns. It was a case of who would keep concentrating and tight after very close second and third games. Pirates won that battle so with the scores 6/5 to the pirates on came the battle royal between Ian and Tony. The Christmas festivities had slowed Ian and lack of depth allowed tony all to often trickle boast Tim Poole would be proud of. At 2/2 the final game made it either a win for the Pirates or Countback. Luckily Ian woke from his slumbers and despite an eternity of a breather for dropped balls, tieing shoelaces and questioning the score play continued for a well earned win for Ian 15/11. A great night rounded off by a fine beef dish for all. |

Away Report: | Great night of squash. We almost pulled off a shock result so we must be improving! Thanks to the Pirates for excellent hosting again. See you at Truro HQ next time. |

Notes: | Great report Gareth and wonderful to see you back on crt again even with all those accessories you carry these days! It was a close match, down the wire with victory decided for the Pirates in the last few rallies of my match with Captain Pugwash, sorry Hatchy, I mean! All four matches were great to watch and - county hat on - noted was the up-and-coming star you have in Wayne. It won’t be long before he’s snapping at the heels of your higher order! Your youth policy coming to fruition at last! Gordon looks in need of suntan top up, Hatchy is off the beer, Wayne is the future, Gareth is back....what more can I say? Er, what no Woodsy??? 😂Great night! The mood in the team bus going back up the Camborne by-pass was the best all season, even jubilant such is the boost a near win has on Tr5! It was, of course, a combination of both good squash games and that scrummy beef dish Phil made. Thank-ee aarrgh! |
