Report: | Both teams were under strength in this top v bottom fixture. Julian pulled out with a tiny blister on his big toe but we reckon he’s saving himself to have a good go at a top seed in the county champs this weekend. Katrina played a composed game with good lengths and tidy drops at the right time to leave Richie struggling in most rallies. Good that Katrina is hitting good form ahead of the ladies’ champs on Sunday. Jo was not long off the plane back from a sunny winter break but at times he equalled Gary for choosing the right choice of shot to end the rally. However, Gary boasted well and had just too much in his armoury on the night! Adam served well against Russ and scored some classy points especially with that powerful forehand he has but the TR4 man tied his opponent in knots with his highly effective lob serve. Match of the night was the final encounter between two old sparring partners, Dave and Tony. Dave shaded the first two with the right shot at the right time as Tony squandered his own chances. It was nip and tuck all the way and the third was a belter which Tony took 20-18. Dave got off to a great start in the 4th and sealed the victory and the 15 pts in with an emphatic 15-8 in the 4th. It’s a credit to Cornwall Squash that we have players of that age - including Russ - who can still play that standard of squash. Our O60s have a great chance of upsetting the bigger counties in the Inter County Comp this year! TR4 retain top spot and get a two week break while TrFive visit the Pirates next Weds. |
