Report

Report:Without the smoking, drinking, yet freakishly tireless Julian at 1, Truro 4 were always going to be up against it to some degree. That said, Katrina made Ali work very hard at 4 in a match that one wag dubbed ‘beauty and the beast’. And Gary’s game was almost as sharp as his wit as his tactical approach meant the battle of the captains was far tougher than it had any right to be, Rob taking it a tightish 3-0. Racketball next, Gary ... Russ put in a fine performance at 2 against the returning Tremaine and denied Bude the whitewash. It was a match of fitness vs finesse, but in the end Russ’s error count edged up, and Tremaine’s dogged retrieving won out. And youth carried the day at 1 also, where Fin held on in a tight last game to maintain his winning streak. Not having had the chance to watch it, I can only assume that Dave’s relief at not having to face a rematch in Truro suggests he was made to work commendably hard. Good laugh in the bar afterwards, and always a pleasure to host such gallant oppo (it’s not often that a player gives so much on court that she forgets what day it is).

Administrator Notes

Notes:Great report Rob and sorry to hear my club mates had the long journey back down the Atlantic Highway with only a solitary point for all their efforts. Must have been quiet! Looking at the scores though they were a whisker away from so much more but we’ll done to the Budists who managed 30 pts for and just 2 against in a week! Title winning stuff, I’d say, but they are not alone and Fal3 match up pretty closely and have a real incentive to carry off the prize given the sorry state of affairs with their first team!!! It’s great that we have a lady player of real quality and with two others in their dotage at 60+, youngsters like Fin and Tremaine, bearded Ali, we can claim to have diversity nailed - that’s with Gary too as a Geordie, racially different in every sense!! Julian sorely missed though! Great to have Tremaine back but sorry TR5 have to make the same trek up to N Cornwall later in March. We just might get battered for having the temerity of being the only side to have beaten the Budists! It’s not about the winning though! What? Glad you had good apres squash! Onwards and upwards....
