Report: | A first victory for TrFive after nearly pipping PZ last week. All thanks to our two new signings, Seb and Ras, who made all the difference. It didn’t help Bude’s cause that they had a new number 4 in too. Nick tried hard and scored some well-earned points but Ras had the speed and variety of shots to bag a good 3-0 win on his return to team squash after an absence of two years. Adam had a great hit with Ali and looked favourite after taking the first quite convincingly. Then Ali found his line and length and got on his running shoes to take the next three equally convincingly. Job done, match finely balanced. Tony - that’s me - can count himself very lucky to snatch the final crucial points in each of three tight games against Chris who is one of Div2’s most improved players. Great win for the old fella who is delighted to drop down the order at last. Match won, gasps of disbelief! Then the much awaited grand finale of the evening: Seb v Rob, a rematch after Seb took the spoils in the County Champs recently. Rob’s tricky flicky shots v Seb’s amazing court coverage - what a game it was. Rob took the first two but looked in need of a rest which indeed he took in the next two! Seb was a bit good though! Finely poised at 2-2 the smart money went on the nippy Truro youngster, but Rob had other ideas and summoned up enough energy to establish a solid lead in the fifth. Looking like he was on empty he got over the line with some great winning shots! Superb end to the proceedings. A great match and a most enjoyable evening. |

Notes: | The TR5 WhatsApp Group went berserk tonight! A first win in Div2 this entire season after 13 straight defeats. Now that’s very encouraging and so is having two good youngsters returning to team squash! I think this means that all the teams can beat each other so hang on to your seats for a great season! I’m guessing at least three or four teams could win it and any one of roughly the same number could be wooden spoonists! Good news for Cornwall Squash and all on a day when Truro School smashed their way into the National Schools’ Final by winning 15-0, 15-0, 15-1 at Charterhouse, Surrey! Happy days...... |
