Report: | Another home win for Bude, although not without a bump or two along the way. Chris vs. Tom at 4 was a match that swung one way and then the other. Chris likes to get value for money, and never wins in 3 if there’s a chance to take it the full distance. Credit to Tom for putting him under pressure at the front, but the Hemmerle magic won out in the end. Next on were the number 1s, Mike vs. Fin. Mike had brought his private fan club along, but Fin was favourite on paper, and nicked a tight first game. He didn’t look comfortable, though, and Mike seemed to have an answers to the questions he asked. Mike edged the second before running out a comparatively easy winner in the final 2 games as Fin looked out of ideas and hit a string of loose shots. Bodmin ahead by 1. Rob (me) vs. Martin was up next, and it was great to play someone unfamiliar. Martin’s rangy physique and unorthodox style gave me pause for thought in the first, but I found a way through and built momentum as the match progressed, taking the win in 3. Finally, it was the turn of Tremaine vs. Andy. Tremaine took a competitive first game, where Andy’s strong back court play was more than a match for Tremaine, but Tremaine’s court coverage sealed it for the Bude number 2. The next 2 games were all Tremaine, and he appears to have fully recovered his pre-Christmas form, racing around the court like a greyhound on speed. What it is to be young! |
