Report: | Falmouth visited Newquay 2 with a makeshift team, but all credit to them for getting a team out!
First on was Christian Thomas against Dave. Christian striking the ball very accurately and thinking about his game, could and perhaps should of taken the first. However Dave just sneaked it 15-13.Dave took the next 15-7 and Christian got close again in the third game, Dave taking it 15-10 to win the match 3-0.
Next on court was Matt Harford against Matt Tamblyn. The latter getting off to a great start in the first but Matt Harford using all his years of experience too reel him in taking the first game 15-8.From then on it was pretty much one way traffic in games two and three, Matt playing some beautiful tight squash and despite every effort from his opponent, Harford was just too strong winning the match 3-0.
Jamie Lang went on next against Huw Gibbon.Huw was full of running as ever but was no match for Jamie's tight length, touch and ferocity of hitting. Huw getting closest in the third game, but Matt running out the winner 3-0.
Last on was Darren Shaw against Tom Hackett. Tom's game was full of energy and commitment and although Darren took the match 3-0 he was made too work in every game. Darren just proving that little bit more accurate on the crucial points and taking the match 3-0.
So Newquay 2 taking the match 15-0 but all credit to Falmouth for getting a team out with all their inury problems. And a good night I think the bar as well!

Notes: | Full credit to the Falmouth reserves who stepped up to make this final fixture possible! Thank you Christian, Tom and Huw who normally ply their trade in Div2. Thanks also to Matt as captain who didn't default on any fixture and managed to get the team over the finishing line with an injury list as long as your arm! Good news for all I think, Bude have not accepted promotion despite winning Div2. A sensible choice I feel given the huge gulf in standard between the two divisions. It would have been cruel for eith Bodmin Slayers or Falmouth 1 to go down given the injuries both had to their best players. Thanks all! See you in September! |
