Report: | Great win for the Dragon Slayers at the Den!
I will point out both sides had weakened teams on display, Falmouth more so than the Slayers but credit due all the same for some fine performances.
Starting with Andy and Christian, who the latter has apparently been in some fine form with results to show for it. This however did nothing to discourage Andy who took the game by the scruff of the neck from the outset, Christian fought back in the 2nd and 3rd but could not stop a determined Andy taking the W. Well played Andy.
Next Up is Mike and Pete.
Now this one is always a battle with the usual back and forth between the pair, but last nights got out of hand and at one point I seriously considered stopping the game as I had nearly had enough of marking it.
I feel it is best to refrain from name calling and pointing fingers but bad form on the court last night took the edge of a otherwise engaging battle of the bodies and mind and a lovely evening!
On to Rhys and Hugh, now Rhys was hoping for a turn around from the 1st leg but Hugh was not in the mood to give Rhys any such chance.
Some great rallies between the pair and all even going into the 3rd, then Hugh seemed to step up and gear and Rhys took his foot off the gas.
This lead to Hugh taking the next two games far to comfortably which Rhys will be disappointed with I'm sure. Great game to watch (and ref)
Last up was old foes Max and Matt. We have not had a hit in a while now and I was looking forward to this, having seen Matt's fine form at the County Champs against Phil Thomas.
The first game went all the way and I seemed to have flash backs of previous 5 setters with Matt, but having nicked the 1st 17-15 the second was more straight forward taking it 15-9, then the 3rd.
Really enjoyable game, and played with smiles as always when playing the BFG, with Matt later claiming the kids had hampered his eye (hmmm) haha. It was slightly red to be fair.
All in all a great evening as always with the guys from Falmouth. Good luck with the rest of your games |

Notes: | A good bagging of much needed points for the Slayers to keep them out of trouble even without their injured star player. This was perhaps evened out by the injuries suffered by the visitors, sad to say. A shame there was a difficult match to mark and your points have been noted by the Committee. Falmouth really need their new navy signing to turn out and quickly! Adrift at the bottom of the table and with one more game played than the next two in the relegation zone doesn't sound great at this stage. Good to see Huw and others stepping in to plug the holes. However, mid-season, injuries and absences usually mean there'll be a few freak results as the story unfolds. Great report again, Max. Love reading them! |
