Report

Report:This was potentially a taster for the end of season play-off final but sadly, Newquay were plagued with injuries and could only field a team of 3. TR3 went into the match knowing that 12 points should be sufficient to tie-up the Spring league, so a 3 point head start was welcome. However, when you're then up against Matt, Jamie and Dave, a further 9 points are never going to be easy!
The evergreen Simmo was first on against Dave who has shown a significant improvement in his game this year. Unfortunately for Dave, Simmo is on fire at the moment and with his tight play and amazing racquet skills, took a fairly comfortable 3-0 win.
Next up was Joel against Jamie and this was certainly the match of the night. There was only a two point gap in each of the first two games which Jamie took. However, Joel dug in and won the third 15-9 with some superb play which even included some backhand, volley winners! Unusually, Joel was not hitting the tin with his normal regularity and his teammates said it was the best he'd played all season. Jamie's experience and fitness told in the end and won the last 15-12.
It was now down to Matt to try and inflict a defeat on Rory for the first time in 2019. The TR3 number 1 has been in superb form - family life suits him well! I think Matt is feeling the effects of a long season and he's had some disappointing results recently. Rory continued his imperious form and won 3-0 with some amazing attacking, retrieving and stylish squash.
With TR3 now qualified for the play-off final, a coin was tossed to decide the venue. Newquay won so all that needs to be done is a date to be fixed. I think it promises to be a great final with some of the best players in the county going for the league title. This is one not to miss!
Great cottage pie thanks Kerry and normal, good banter afterwards with JW taking more than his fair share!

Administrator Notes

Notes:Well done JW and TR3 who can now call themselves Spring Leahue 2019 Winners if not County Champions quite yet. The ceremonial tossing of the coin to decide home venue puts NQY in the driving seat especially on those hot courts. The NYGs will need Matt on form though if they’re to have any chance against the unbeaten reigning champs though NQY combined are hot favourites to win the Pawle Cup this year! Simmo is just a classy shot maker and Rory is in a rich vein of form, though it’s a great shame Joel only plays on a ‘loannee’ basis considering his depth of talent. What a waste! Tim too is getting some form of old back, we note, and then there’s the one and only ever-dependable Skywalker who like the others has been ruthless in the last month or two. Will there be 5 stars on the TR3 shirt next season or will NQY2 win the Cornish Crown? Great squash in prospect. Let’s hope we can get a crowd out for the Play-Off Final.
