Report: | First match back after the New Year at the tropical Newquay sports centre. Newquay were hosting fellow title contenders Truro1.
With Jamie Lang injured Henry Geale came in for his first match for Newquay for quite some time. Henry playing a fast paced match with Zefron Counter, both players showing what youth and fitness can look like on a squash court. Zefron running out the winner 3-0.
Next on court was Darren Shaw against Neil Counter. Neil getting out the blocks really fast and Darren never quite managing to get going left Neil too take the spoils 3-0.
Dave Priem was up next against Steve Dickinson.Dave won the first, but it was the second game that was pivotal to the result with Dave just nicking it 16-14 in the sweltering heat. Dave then went on to win the the third in a hard fought battle.
The best was saved till last again as Matt Harford went on against George Marley. With four of the five games being 15-13 either way showing how tough this match was Matt just edging it in the fifth.
So Truro taking the first match back after the winter break I'm sure there will be lots of twists and turns before the end of the season though!

Notes: | One injury and it all seems different! Jamie was obviously sorely missed but take nothing away from this first away for Neil’s men who will be serious contenders come April, I’m guessing. Good to see George returning to some good form again so I’m guessing he’s been on court more. A great win for Dave v Stevie D and Neil is looking good these days! How does he do it? Zeph will be hoping to go a whole season undefeated - the county’s top No4! I’ll stick my neck out and say that NYGs are still favourites though. |
